Evrytania is one of the 7 prefectures of Central Greece. It is the most mountainous prefecture of Greece.The prefecture of Evrytania, immersed in fir trees, has many landscapes of incomparable natural beauty and is an ideal destination for nature and sports lovers, but also for those looking for quiet holidays, rest and fresh air. The green slopes in the summer, and the alpine landscape in the winter compose an enchanting scene. The traditional town of Karpenisi, the ski center of Velouchi, the artificial lake of Kremasto and the area of Agrafa attract the attention of visitors.

Its capital is Karpenissi. Amongst the firs, pines and chestnuts, it is one of the most beautiful and picturesque Greek towns. In the area there are hotels, traditional guesthouses and rooms for rent for your stay, as well as cafes, taverns, restaurants and bar for your entertainment.

The surrounding area offers many interesting options for alternative tourism such as mountaineering, hiking, archery, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, horse riding and other activities. There are excellent routes that can be done passing through beautiful, picturesque villages of Evrytania, by 4x4 jeep, by bike or on foot.

Close to the town of Karpenissi and at a distance of a few kilometers, the visitor has the opportunity to discover picturesque villages and beautiful, verdant areas. Some beautiful villages in the area are: Agios Nikolaos, Myriki, Koryschades, Voutyro, Agios Andreas and others.

Winter sports, hiking, skiing, rafting, canyoning, cycling, horse riding are some of what you can indulge in. You can also indulge in canoe-kayaking, letting Kremaston Lake reveal its secrets to you, or descend the canyons and waterfalls of the area. For the more daring, there is a club for paragliding or parapente in Karpenisi. You will also find specially designed areas with instructors to learn archery. Of course, you should not miss visiting the Velouchi Ski Center, one of the largest and most impressive ski centers in Greece, with 5 lifts and 18 slopes.

Prussos

The picturesque village that has linked its name to the Monastery of Prousos, although it lives in the shadow of the monastery, has other graces to show. It is located in the southwestern part of Evrytania between Mount Panaitoliko and the rivers Krikellopotamos and Trikerioti. The famous Evrytania prosciutto is also produced here.
You will see 7 white marble marks on the rock, called "Footprints of the Virgin Mary" and are said to be the footprints left by the Virgin Mary on her way to Proussos. The little church there is full of all kinds of tributes. Where the Virgin "stopped walking".

Megalo Chorio

Megalo Chorio is the main village of the area and is located 14 km south of Karpenissi. Nested on the slopes of Mount Kaliakouda, it is amphitheatrically built. Leave your car on the outskirts of the village and follow the trail on foot. Walk the cobbled streets of the village and its picturesque alleys and admire the well-preserved stone mansions in your way. Look for the watch and window-shop at the various folk art shops, offering handicraft made of ecological and recyclable materials.
Remember to visit the Folklore Museum, featuring rich exhibits of local lifestyle. Enjoy your coffee at the village square and watch the sunset behind Helidona and the green valley that stretches before it.


Fidakia

It is a small settlement of great charm that is appealing to everyone. Maintaining a lower profile compared to the more famous names around it, the village of Fidakia (i.e. “Small snakes”) is a verdant settlement built at an altitude of 960 meters, overlooking Lake Kremasta. Like a well-kept secret, it takes some effort to reach its enchanting world, as it is only accessed after crossing the forest and driving along the serpentine road.
